Shooting Log is an app for logging your shooting sessions, firearms and gear. It's made by Bluewater Web Studio, a DBA of Bluewater Marketing, LLC, a New Mexico company ("we", "us"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the app collects, why, and the choices you have.

The short version: your log stays on your phone unless you subscribe to Pro and turn on sync. We don't show ads, we don't use analytics or tracking, and we never sell or share your information for advertising.

1. Using Shooting Log Without an Account

You can use Shooting Log without signing in. Your sessions, firearms, gear, notes and photos are stored only on your device, and we never receive them.

The app does contact RevenueCat, our subscription provider, so it can tell whether you have Pro. It does this using a random identifier that isn't linked to you; see "Subscriptions" below.

2. Information We Collect When You Sign In

Account Information: When you create an account, we receive your email address. We may also receive your name, and a link to your profile photo if Google provides one, depending on how you sign in:

  • Sign in with Apple: Apple shares your name and email with us. You can choose to hide your email, in which case Apple gives us a private relay address that forwards to you.
  • Sign in with Google: Google shares your name, email and profile photo link.
  • Email code: We email you a one-time code. The code expires after 10 minutes.

If you sign in with Apple or Google, we also store the sign-in tokens they issue. We use Apple's token to revoke the app's access to your Apple ID if you delete your account.

Sign-In Sessions: While you're signed in, we keep a record of each signed-in device. It contains the IP address and device and app type the device signed in from, which helps us protect your account. A session expires after one year. Its record is removed when you sign out or delete your account.

Your Log, If You Have Pro: With a Pro subscription, sync copies your log to our servers so it's backed up and available on all your devices. This includes your sessions, entries, firearms, magazines, ranges, targets, drills, malfunctions, notes and photo details such as captions. Each install of the app also has a random device identifier, which sync uses to track which device made a change. Firearm records, including serial numbers, are encrypted on our servers with a key unique to your account, and are decrypted only to sync them to your devices.

Photos, If You Have Pro: Photos you add stay on your device. With Pro, they're also uploaded to cloud storage, encrypted, so your other devices can download them. Before uploading, the app resizes each photo; it uploads only the photos you add.

Without Pro: If you sign in but don't have Pro, we store only your account and sign-in information. Your log stays on your device.

Server Logs: Like most online services, our servers keep basic technical logs, such as the requests they receive and any errors, which may include IP addresses. We use them only to run and secure Shooting Log.

3. Subscriptions

Pro is purchased through Apple's App Store on iPhone or Google Play on Android. Apple or Google handles payment, and we never receive your card or payment details.

We use RevenueCat to confirm subscriptions. RevenueCat receives:

  • Your purchase and subscription history from Apple or Google
  • An identifier for your account, or a random identifier if you're not signed in. RevenueCat never receives your email address.
  • Basic device and app details, such as the operating system version, app version, country and IP address

Our server asks RevenueCat whether your account has an active subscription, and keeps a record of the answer. That record holds whether the subscription is active and when it renews or ends.

4. Device Permissions

Camera and Photos

Shooting Log asks for access to your camera and photo library only when you choose to add a photo. It uses only the photos you take or pick.

Microphone

Shooting Log can use your microphone for one thing: Count by ear, a Pro feature that counts your shots as you fire. It uses the microphone only when you tap Count by ear on an entry, and never turns it on by itself. The microphone isn't used for anything else.

  • Sound stays on your phone. The app checks sound on your phone as it comes in and throws it away right after. It isn't recorded or stored, isn't sent to our servers or anyone else, and isn't used for speech or voice recognition, advertising or analytics.
  • Only the count is kept. The only thing saved is the round count you choose to save with the entry. It syncs like the rest of your log.
  • It listens only when you ask it to. Count by ear runs only while the app is open and you're listening. It stops when you tap Stop, save or close the entry, or leave the app. It never listens in the background.
  • You control the permission. The app asks for microphone access the first time you use Count by ear. You can turn it off at any time in your phone's Settings, and everything else still works, including counting rounds by hand.

Because audio never leaves your device, we don't collect it. Our App Store privacy details and Google Play data safety form list audio as not collected for the same reason.

Other Permissions

Shooting Log does not request access to your location or notifications.

5. No Third-Party Analytics or Tracking

Shooting Log does not integrate:

  • Analytics tools (Google Analytics, Firebase, etc.)
  • Crash reporting platforms
  • Advertising SDKs or tracking technologies

6. How We Use Information

We use your information only to run Shooting Log:

  • To sign you in and keep your account secure
  • To sync and back up your log and photos
  • To confirm your subscription
  • To send sign-in codes
  • To respond when you contact us

We don't use it for advertising or profiling, and we don't sell it.

7. Service Providers

We rely on a few service providers to run Shooting Log, and they handle information only on our behalf, under terms that require them to protect it at least as well as this policy does:

  • Amazon Web Services: Photo storage and sign-in emails
  • Hostinger: Our servers and database
  • RevenueCat: Subscription status
  • Apple and Google: Sign-in, if you choose them, and payments through the App Store and Google Play

Your information is stored and processed in the United States.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of our users or ourselves.

8. Data Security

All information between the app and our servers is sent over encrypted connections. Firearm records and photos are encrypted at rest, and access to our systems is limited. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you as required by law if a breach affects you.

9. Keeping and Deleting Your Information

We keep your account and synced log for as long as you have an account. If your Pro subscription ends, your synced log stays in your account. It isn't deleted, and it's there again if you renew.

You can delete your account at any time in the app: go to Settings → Account & sync, tap your email, then tap Delete account. Deleting your account permanently removes:

  • Your account
  • Your synced log
  • Your uploaded photos

If you signed in with Apple, it also revokes the app's access to your Apple ID. Copies in our backups are deleted within 30 days. Your purchase history stays with Apple or Google and RevenueCat, and isn't linked to your email address; contact us if you'd like us to ask RevenueCat to delete its record.

Deleting your account doesn't erase the log on your phone. To remove it, use Settings → Your data → Erase this phone's log. You can also export your log as a CSV spreadsheet from Settings → Your data → Export CSV at any time. Serial numbers are left out of exports.

10. Deleting Your Account and Data

You can delete your Shooting Log account and the data stored with it at any time. This applies to the iPhone and Android apps.

In the App

  1. Open Shooting Log and go to Settings.
  2. Under Account & sync, tap your email address.
  3. Tap Delete account and confirm.

Your account is deleted right away.

Without the App

If you no longer have the app installed, email info@bluewaterwebstudio.com from the email address you sign in with, with the subject "Delete my Shooting Log account." We'll confirm and delete the account within 30 days.

What Is Deleted

  • Your account: your email address, your name, and your Apple or Google sign-in link. If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke Shooting Log's access to your Apple ID.
  • Everything synced to your account: sessions, entries, firearms, magazines, ranges, targets, drills and settings.
  • Photos uploaded to Shooting Log's cloud storage.

What Is Kept

  • The log on your phone. Shooting Log keeps your log on your device and works without an account, so deleting your account doesn't erase it. To remove it, go to Settings → Your data → Erase this phone's log, or uninstall the app.
  • Purchase records. Apple or Google, and our billing provider, RevenueCat, keep records of subscription purchases as needed for billing, refunds and tax purposes. These records aren't linked to your email address.
  • Backups. Deleted data may remain in encrypted server backups for up to 30 days before it's overwritten.

Subscriptions

Deleting your account doesn't cancel a Shooting Log Pro subscription. Cancel it first in your Apple ID settings (iPhone) or in Google Play → Payments & subscriptions (Android).

11. Your Choices and Rights

You can view, correct, export and delete your information in the app. You can also ask us, by email at the address below, to:

  • Send you a copy of your information
  • Correct it
  • Delete it

We'll respond within 30 days. We honor these requests no matter where you live, including for residents of states with privacy laws such as California.

12. Children’s Privacy

Shooting Log is not intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date above. If a change significantly affects how we use your information, we'll tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect.
